The findings underscore the advantages of Tonisity Px in optimising piglet development from birth to finishing.
A recent study conducted in Brazil has demonstrated the significant benefits of using Tonisity Px in pig production. The research, conducted on a 2,600-sow farm, evaluated the impact of Tonisity Px on pig growth, mortality rates and overall health compared to a control group and a competitor product (Competitor A).
Exceptional Trial Complexity and Quality of Analysis
This study was conducted with exceptional diligence and precision in data collection and analysis. The study was carried out over six months, with the research team individually weighing well over 1,500 pigs at four different time points throughout their life cycle.
Each of these weighing sessions took approximately three days to complete, sometimes longer, ensuring that every measurement was accurately recorded and analysed. The thoroughness of this approach underscores the reliability of the findings and the strong scientific basis for the benefits observed with Tonisity Px.
Tonisity Px Provides Superior Growth Performance
Administering Tonisity Px from days two to eight of life, and for three days before and after weaning, led to considerable weight gains at every stage of production:
- Weaning: Pigs supplemented with Tonisity Px weighed 390 g more = 5% more than the control group, whereas Competitor A only provided a 170 g increase = +2%
- End-Nursery: The Tonisity Px group maintained a weight advantage of 490 g = +2% over controls, which was 12 times greater than the mere 40 g increase seen in the Competitor A group
- Finishing: Tonisity Px pigs weighed 1.9 kg more than the control group +2%, whereas Competitor A pigs were actually 0.7 kg lighter than the controls
Tonisity Px provided a strong weaning weight advantage over Controls and amplified this by five times to finishing. In contrast, the Competitor A, failed to sustain its initial, smaller weaning weight advantage, finishing 0.7 kg less than the Control. This demonstrates that Tonisity Px offers sustained growth advantages, while CA’s effects are ultimately less effective in the long-term.
Healthier and Higher-Quality Pigs
One of the most striking benefits of Tonisity Px is its ability to improve overall pig quality, reducing the number of weaker pigs (fall-behinds) at key production stages.
A very visible consequence of weight improvements across the entire population is a reduced number of fall-behinds at weaning, end-nursery and finishing. Fall-behinds are defined as those pigs with a weight below a certain threshold. This threshold can vary from farm to farm but is largely determined by market forces and pricing. For this trial, fall-behinds are those pigs in the bottom 15% based on weaning weight (<6.18 kg) and end-nursery weight (<24.85 kg) and finishing (<100.50 kg).
- Weaning Fall-Behinds: The Tonisity Px group achieved a 50% reduction in fall-behinds compared to the control group, resulting in an additional 102 full-value pigs per 1,000 weaned. In contrast, Competitor A achieved only a 33% reduction
- Nursery Fall-Behinds: Tonisity Px reduced fall-behinds by 31%, leading to 52 more full-value pigs per 1,000 at the end of nursery, 10 times greater than the 3% reduction seen with Competitor A
- Finishing Fall-Behinds: The finishing phase saw a 42% reduction in fall-behinds with Tonisity Px, resulting in 93 more full-value pigs per 1,000. Competitor A’s reduction was only 12%
The fall-behind reduction in the Tonisity Px group brings an important benefit for the producer, especially since fall-behind pigs need specific attention, more medication, and are likely to reach finishing weight later than their full-weight counterparts. The Tonisity Px group represents a better intervention than Competitor A for increasing the proportion of full-value pigs at weaning, end-nursery and at finishing.
These figures further emphasise the importance of investing in good products, such as Tonisity Px. Often opting for cheaper products can mean lower efficiency numbers and consequently impact on financial returns.
Reduced Mortality and Improved Health
Tonisity Px also demonstrated substantial reductions in piglet mortality and disease occurrence:
- Pre-Weaning Mortality: Reduced by 17% compared to the control group, whereas Competitor A saw an increase in mortality by 56%
- Nursery Mortality: Reduced by 50% with Tonisity Px, compared to just a 17% reduction with Competitor A
- Finishing Mortality: Tonisity Px decreased mortality by 35%, while Competitor A only managed a 6% reduction
- Diarrhea Occurrence: Tonisity Px reduced pre-weaning diarrhea by 84%, a 1.3x greater reduction than Competitor A with 66%
The Overall Impact on Production
This farm is producing ~80,000 finishing pigs annually. By using Tonisity Px on all pigs, the benefits are as follows:
- An additional 1,588 finisher pigs
- An increase of 6,083 full-value pigs
- An extra 326,202 kg of body weight
- An incredible ROI of: 3.7:1 (with the price of pigs at 9.5 R$/Kg )
The Reality Behind ‘Cheaper’ Alternatives
Competitor A is often marketed as a more economical alternative to Tonisity Px. However, the study clearly shows that while it may come at a lower upfront cost, its results fail to match those of Tonisity Px. In fact, Competitor A not only showed lower weight gains but also had increased mortality rates and a smaller impact on overall pig quality.
The savings on the product itself are quickly outweighed by the losses in productivity, making Tonisity Px the smarter investment for farmers looking for real, measurable improvements.
Conclusion
This study reinforces that Tonisity Px is a superior solution for improving pig growth, reducing mortality and ensuring overall better pig health. Unlike Competitor A, which failed to sustain its initial benefits, Tonisity Px consistently delivered positive results at every production stage.
For pig farmers looking to enhance productivity and efficiency, Tonisity Px presents an effective, research-backed intervention that delivers long-term benefits for both pig health and farm profitability.
