A webinar run as part of the Tonisity EuroTier Speaker Programme was picked up by Pig Progress and subject to a deeper report by the publication. The webinar itself was presented by Dr Keelin O’Driscoll and Dr. Laura Boyle, Senior Researchers from Teagasc, Ireland’s Agriculture and Food Development Authority.

With the aim of improving pigs’ chances of survival, the focus of the article was on going back to basics and considering the pig’s biology. Increasing litter size numbers has a correlation with increased pre-weaning mortality, as pigs are historically being born smaller and lighter. By optimising piglet welfare and survival until weaning, we can implement different practices to help reduce this mortality rate.
